Supported Living Situations and Staffing Arrangements - The Arc helps individuals live in the community as independently as possible. For more information on types of living situations and staffing arrangements.

Types of Supported Living Situations:

• Live in my own place, with or without roommates: The Arc assists people who want to rent their own home. If individuals want to live with roommates, we help them find suitable roommates. Typically, The Arc will provide drop-in staff support. Some individuals choose to buy their own homes with the help of their families or The Arc. We will assist people with disabilities to access community resources that may be available to them.
• Live with others in an agency owned or rented home: Some people live in homes that are owned or rented by The Arc. These homes are called Alternative Living Units (ALU’s). Typically, three individuals live in these homes. They may have greater needs for supervision, so more hours of staff support is provided. Some of these individuals receive 24 hour a day staff support.
• Live in my family’s home: Some people live in their family’s homes. The Arc will provide drop-in staff support in addition to the support already provided by the family.
• Live in another person’s home and receive supports from them. Similar to adult foster care, individuals live with a support provider in their home. Supports may be 24 hours a day or may be more limited.
