The
Arc’s Celebrity Golf Tournament
The 2009 tournament, our 15th annual, was held on two golf courses, Woodlands and Diamond Ridge Golf Courses, in Windsor Mill, Maryland on Tuesday, May 19th and was once again sponsored by Scientific Plant Service and a host of other corporate partners.
This year’s Celebrity Golf Tournament hosted nearly 180 golfers and raised nearly $90,000. Thanks to our Title Sponsor, Scientific Plant Service for another great year, and our tournament co-chairs, Mike Eikenberg and Chuck Shettle who started this tournament 15 years ago.
Thank you to the generosity of our sponsors and the golfers who take advantage of a great assortment of silent auction items, including trips, beach getaways, sports memorabilia, and tempting personal services at day spas and luxurious hotels.

Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner
Celebrating a tradition of volunteer and staff commitment
each year, the 2009 dinner was held on May 6th at Timonium's Crown Plaza (formerly the Holiday Inn Select). WMAR’s Jamie Costello was the evening's master
of ceremonies. With entertainment including selections from Fiddler on the Roof by the Sky’s the Limit and this year’s awardees a large helping of inspiration, The Arc of Baltimore annual meeting had something for everyone this year.
The talent and artistry of individuals with developmental
disabilities is showcased every year at The Arc’s Art
in the Round Exhibit and Auction. A selection committee reviews
approximately 100 pieces submitted each year for a final group
of 60 pieces to exhibit at the American Visionary Arts Museum.
A veritable feast of hors d’oeuvres along with a wine tasting
are enjoyed during the exhibit and auction and lead up to
the final and furious bidding for the art. Artists look on
with pride as their work fetches profits for their pockets and
artaficionados grin over the unique piece acquired for a
modest sum.
The 8th Annual Art in the Round was held
on November 6, 2009 at the American Visionary Art Museum. More than 350 guests gathered for this year’s Art in the Round. Artists beamed with pride before their families and later posed with the winning bidders who purchased their artwork. Pictured at below in slide one is Crystal Wagner after being presented with a congratulatory check for her Sunflower painting that will be used as next year’s event poster and for promotions. On occasion, companies and organizations come up with creative ways to support the work of The Arc. Watch here for pictures and examples of special friends doing generous and wonderful things.
