Community
Living
The
Arc of Baltimore helps people live independently in neighborhoods
across greater Baltimore - in homes, apartments, condominiums
- in a variety of ways, all with the aim of helping people
becoming full and active members of the communities in which
they live.
The Arc of Baltimore provides community living supports
over three hundred people, all with the aim of helping people
become full and active members of the communities
in which they live. We accomplish this by teaching supported
individuals the skills that are necessary to:
- grow
in their relationships
-
benefit from resources in the community
-
develop community supports
-
participate in all routines of daily living
- exercise
their rights and responsibilities as citizens
-
become more independent
Individuals
choose the supports they receive with help from their families,
friends and advocates, based on their desires and needs.
Even before they become part of the agency, individualized
plans are created which guide The Arc’s efforts in
supporting them. When they enter The Arc, individuals meet
with all who seek to help them at least once a year to create
and change their Individual Plans based on new desires and
needs.
The
Arc provides supports in a way that gives special consideration
to the health and safety of individuals. We monitor physical
and mental health and obtain community services as needed.
Safety procedures in the home and in the community are used
and we provide supervision based on the needs of individuals.
The
staff who support individuals include:
-
Direct support staff who work in individuals’ homes
and in their communities
-
Program Managers who provide case management
-
Operations Managers who supervise staff and ensure the
safe operation of homes
-
Nurses
-
Psychological Associates
