Club Venture

For more than forty years, The Arc of Baltimore (known for years as BARC – the Baltimore Association for Retarded Citizens) has offered a weeklong, residential camp and recreational experience for adults with developmental disabilities.  The program was founded to provide recreational activities for people who otherwise have no opportunity to have a vacation or time away with peers.  The program adheres to the philosophy that individuals with disabilities should have the same camping and vacation opportunities that are available to others.  The program often provides an added benefit to parents and other caregivers who are afforded a “respite” from their daily care giving responsibilities.

The camp provides leisure activities as an opportunity to get away and relax.  Located at NorthBay Adventure in Cecil County, Maryland (about an hour’s distance from northern Baltimore County), the Camp offers swimming, baseball, fishing, crafts, cooking experiences, rock climbing, zip line, community trips to local sites and ropes course.

Evening activities can include Talent Night, Bingo, a "Formal Dance", drama performances, a Square Dance and folk sing-along and live performance by Elvis Presley.

The heart of the Camp experience is in the cabin-group living.  Participants share modern cabins with peers and experienced counselors.  The cabin environment is an experience in interpersonal relationships, offering an opportunity for each participant to develop his/her individual capabilities and make new and often lasting friendships.
